MuGot - Museo Gotica Toscana
FotoThe Historical Documentation and Research Center of Gothic Tuscany Onlus was established in 2011 to preserve the memory of the events that took place in September 1944 in the Northern Apennines of Florence. Specifically, the area between the Futa Pass and the Giogo Pass was the stage for the furious attacks launched against the Gothic Line, the last fortified defense line set up by the German army in Italy. The museum offers visitors, scholars, and school groups numerous texts, documents, and written and filmed testimonies related to the period of interest. Upon request (for groups of at least 10 people), it also organizes battlefield excursions for a detailed explanation of the events and a visit to the original positions. Lastly, the permanent setups and temporary thematic exhibitions inside the premises, resulting from findings on the ground and material collected over the years by members or donated by local populations, allow interested parties to become familiar with the men, uniforms, and materials that were protagonists of that last, often forgotten, phase of the Italian Campaign. The center's mission is to give everyone the opportunity to remember the months preceding the Liberation of our country, precursors to the arrival of Democracy and the return of Freedom in Italy. The spectacularity of the materials on display does not aim to glorify the grandeur of modern warfare in any way but rather to bring as many people as possible closer to reflection and awareness that remembering those distant times today, and above all trying to understand them historically, is the first step to take to avoid reliving the tragedies, destruction, and despair. Since 2012, the Center has also served as a gathering point, assistance, and contact for collectors of historical military vehicles, hosting the headquarters of the History & Military Vehicles Italy club and the Italian office of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association, which provides support to all Italian members and welcomes all MVPA associates visiting the area.
