Voltumna was born in the early 2000s as a collective project of three young couples driven by the desire to cultivate the land with a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach. Over time, the group dwindled down until 2012, when Marzio Politi and his wife, the last ones left managing the five hectares of vineyards and the farmhouse, were given the opportunity to take over the entire business, leasing it with the aim of eventually buying it. For Marzio, who had planted the vines ten years earlier, worked organically from the start, and embraced biodynamics in 2010 with the support of winemaker Michele Lorenzetti, it was a significant challenge, but no one better than him could take care of this project. In the early years, Voltumna followed the path set by Michele, in a journey of growth marked by friendship, study, and exchange. However, from 2015 onwards, Marzio chose to embark on a more independent path, experimenting and testing himself with new approaches, aware that mistakes are also part of growth. It was the same year when the company downsized to two and a half hectares, losing the Pinot Noir vineyard, preserved for over a decade, due to a preemptive right exercised by another buyer. Undeterred, Voltumna started a process of grafting Pinot Noir onto Sangiovese, hoping to soon reintroduce one of its most representative wines. The new company size allows for personal supervision of every step, from the vineyard to the cellar, ensuring a very high level of attention and a direct relationship with every production phase. The vineyards, cultivated with biodynamic methods, benefit from a cool climate and strong temperature variations, giving life to wines that reflect the territory's identity and the artisanal nature of the production. The production mainly includes Sangiovese and Merlot, vinified with spontaneous fermentations and aged in wood or amphorae to enhance the authenticity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir. Each bottle stems from a production philosophy that combines respect for nature, experimentation, and the pursuit of balance, with the goal of obtaining wines that speak of the place where they originate and the patient work of those who produce them. Voltumna is not just a winery, but an agricultural project that believes in biodiversity and sustainability, with a management model that integrates viticulture and agritourism into a broader vision of respect and harmony with the environment.
