Fattoria Il Lago is an ancient estate of about 350 hectares located in the municipality of Dicomano, in the highest part of Chianti Rufina, a territory dedicated to viticulture thanks to its proximity to the Tuscan Apennines, which ensure breezy summers and significant temperature variations ideal for the production of elegant and expressive wines. Once owned by the Marquises Vivai-Bartolini-Salimbeni, Florentine nobles, the estate was purchased in 1962 by the Spagnoli family, who began a long process of recovering the real estate and agronomic heritage, with particular attention to viticulture, always the main activity of the estate. Even today, the ancient oak wood press from 1806, used for pressing the grapes, bears witness to a centuries-old winemaking tradition. Ezio Spagnoli, the family patriarch, despite being involved in the construction sector, spends more and more time on the estate, captivated by the beauty and peace of these places, which become the beating heart of family life. The manor villa is the setting for memorable lunches prepared by Grandma Ginetta, followed by adventures exploring the estate aboard an old post-war Fiat Jeep, with enthusiastic grandchildren in tow. Over time, their son Rolando decides to leave the city of Florence to devote himself entirely to managing the company together with his wife Fiorella and their sons Francesco and Filippo, who now carry on the work with passion and respect for tradition, keeping alive the legacy left by their grandfather Ezio. The vineyards extend between 300 and 600 meters above sea level, adapting to the natural conformation of the territory with typical mountain viticulture slopes. The Sangiovese, austere and tenacious, sinks its roots into the galestro and clay, while the Pinot Noir and Syrah find their balance in the cooler and more humid areas of the estate. The cellar, a stone building that has always housed winemaking, hosts modern steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation and traditional concrete tanks for malolactic fermentation, while the barrels for aging the wines rest underground at Villa Il Lago, where constant temperatures guarantee ideal conditions. The production focuses on Chianti Rufina DOCG, known for its freshness and elegance, with a Reserve that matures in wood to enhance its structure, and Vin Santo, made with the traditional appassimento method to obtain a complex and enveloping wine. The organic and artisanal management of the company is a valuable choice, based on the belief that a wine should have an authentic soul and tell the story of the land from which it comes. In addition to winemaking, the agriturismo offers hospitality in apartments converted from ancient farmhouses, immersed in a landscape of vineyards, olive groves, and woods, with a panoramic pool and the opportunity to taste the estate's wines in a context of peace and natural beauty. Fattoria Il Lago is a reality where past and present harmoniously intertwine, passionately carrying on a family tradition that for over sixty years has celebrated the deep bond between man and land.
