A museum that tells the origins of the territory and is the result of 30 years of archaeological research and the commitment of local authorities to develop educational projects on the enhancement of the local heritage. These are the characteristics of the Comprehensive Archaeological Museum of Mugello, Alto Mugello, and Valdisieve. Housed in the Municipal Palace of Dicomano, the new Comprehensive Archaeological Museum offers a highly evocative exhibition path: it features artifacts dating from Prehistory to the Renaissance period found in recent excavations in the area of "il Piano," at the center of the large reservoir of Bilancino, pottery and fragments from the ceramic deposit of "Monti," emerged next to the Fortress of San Martino in San Piero a Sieve, or Etruscan jewelry and worked stones, unearthed from the excavations of Poggio Colla in Vicchio di Mugello. The stele pavilion is certainly the most fascinating: here, there are preserved funeral markers and steles of "Fiesole" type discovered in locations such as Londa, Sandetole, Trebbio, Sant’Agata, Frascole, Montebonello, and Travignoli. The artifacts date back to the Etruscan civilization of the 8th-5th century BC: they belonged to the monumental funerary equipment of the wealthier classes, who commonly used to mark the presence of their tombs with decorated markers or steles, visible even from great distances. Inside the Museum, there is a didactic room with two panels named "Everything in its time" and "Write in Etruscan," through which school-age visitors can directly engage with archaeological themes in a fun and instructive way. The Museum, part of the Widespread Museum Territorial System, gathers archaeological and historical evidence from the entire Mugello, Alto Mugello, and Valdisieve area. The Archaeological Museum is structured on a single floor, the exhibition path includes different levels of interpretation, general or in-depth, through two main criteria: the chronological-topographical and the didactic-thematic, appropriately indicated at the Museum entrance. Special attention has been given to young people, with thematic panels where, on one side, the language is "revived" and used to play with words, and on the other side, school-age children are helped to place historical and archaeological periods in time. Moreover, the museum aims to create a strong synergy with local schools by providing educational workshops and thematic educational visits. This important structure stems from the project, financial, and organizational commitment of local authorities and the significant contribution of local archaeological groups. Young visitors and their families have the opportunity to use a new museum reading tool, the Activity book: booklets designed specifically for children to engage them along the museum exhibition path. The visit becomes interactive: games, observation exercises, and practical activities are proposed during the exploration of the museum rooms, transforming the classic visit into an unforgettable experience!
