Immersed in the evocative landscape of the Sieve Valley, the Church of Santa Maria in Olmi represents an important testimony to the religious and artistic history of Mugello. This ancient sacred building, whose origins are lost in the centuries, has been a spiritual reference point for the local community and is linked to numerous historical and cultural events of the region. The name "a Olmi" probably derives from the presence of centuries-old elms that characterized the surrounding area, a rich area of water and vegetation that favored the development of religious and agricultural settlements over the centuries. The first records of the church date back to the Middle Ages when it became an important center of worship for the faithful of the Sieve Valley. Over the centuries, it has undergone various architectural modifications, maintaining however its original layout and its central role in the spiritual life of the community. The Church of Santa Maria in Olmi has played a fundamental role for the local community, not only as a place of prayer but also as a point of social and cultural aggregation. Throughout the centuries, various noble families and important patrons have taken care of its maintenance, contributing to its artistic enrichment. Inside the church, there are valuable works of art, including paintings and sculptures from the Florentine school. Among the most significant are: an ancient altarpiece depicting the Madonna with the Child, attributed to a Tuscan Renaissance artist, which shows the strong influence of the Florentine school; frescoes and sacred decorations that adorn the side chapels, created in different eras and restored over the centuries, and carved wooden liturgical furnishings, probably dating back to the Baroque period, which give the church a serene and solemn atmosphere.
