Punto panoramico Poggio degli Allocchi
FotoPoggio degli Allocchi is one of the most fascinating panoramic viewpoints in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, on the ridge known as Giogana. This place, nestled among beech and chestnut woods, is a true natural gem. Its strategic position offers a breathtaking view over the Lamone valley on one side and the gentle hills of Mugello on the other, making it a must-visit destination for hiking, nature, and photography enthusiasts. Poggio degli Allocchi is not only a geographical reference point but also a cultural one: for centuries, it has been a crucial passage for shepherds, farmers, and travelers moving between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. The name "Poggio degli Allocchi" refers to the allocchi, nocturnal birds of prey typical of the area. According to some interpretations, the name could stem from the presence of numerous of these birds in the area, whose calls echo in the silence of the Apennine nights. In a more symbolic interpretation, the term "allocchi" could also evoke the sense of astonishment and wonder that strikes those who reach the hilltop, with its enchanted atmosphere and breathtaking panorama. From the summit of Poggio, one of the most spectacular views of the Apennines unfolds. Looking southeast, you can admire the green valleys descending towards the Lamone river, framed by ancient forests. On particularly clear days, the horizon stretches all the way to the Romagna plain, offering a view that encompasses gentle hills, medieval villages, and sometimes even a hint of the Adriatic Sea in the distance. Legend has it that a shepherd, lost on a foggy night, was guided to the hill by the song of an owl. Considering this event as a divine sign, the place was then associated with a kind of mystical protection.
