Villa di Striano
FotoThe Villa di Striano is located in the municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo. Situated on a gentle hill, a few kilometers from the center of Ronta, this historic residence offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills, framed by woods and cultivated fields. The villa is renowned not only for its architectural beauty but also for its central role in the cultural life of the area, having hosted some of the most famous intellectuals and artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. The Villa di Striano was a residence and meeting place for prominent poets, writers, and artists. Among the most famous guests stands out Dino Campana, the visionary poet and author of the "Canti Orfici," who spent some periods of his life here. The villa and the surrounding landscape are often evoked in his poems, conveying the charm and magic of this place. Among various anecdotes, it is said that Campana, during a visit, composed some of his poems while sitting under a large lime tree in the villa's garden. Another significant connection is with Lord Byron, who according to tradition briefly stayed at the villa during one of his trips to Italy. Legend has it that Byron was fascinated by the tranquility and beauty of the place, which he considered ideal for reflection and writing. The Villa di Striano is an elegant example of Tuscan rural architecture, combining simplicity and sophistication. The main body, built between the 17th and 18th centuries, features a wide facade, symmetrical windows, and a series of loggias and terraces overlooking the surrounding landscape. Inside the villa, there are frescoed rooms decorated with floral motifs and bucolic scenes typical of the Tuscan tradition, a historic library preserving ancient volumes, documents, and letters related to the personalities who frequented the villa, as well as collections of art and period objects depicting the daily life of the rural nobility of the past. Dino Campana's room, furnished with antique furniture and enriched with explanatory panels retracing the poet's ties to the villa. In the gardens, styled in Italian fashion, there is a small pond, ancient ornamental plants, and the famous lime tree under which, it is said, Campana composed his verses.
