Route Description

The trail, of short duration and easily accessible to everyone, starts from Passo del Giogo (882 m), a place where history was made. During the Second World War, Passo del Giogo was a strategic point of the Gothic Line, the main German defensive line in Italy. In September 1944, the Allied forces, in particular the 2nd US Corps, launched an offensive to break through this defensive line. After five days of intense fighting, they managed to conquer the heights of Monticelli and Monte Altuzzo, located south of the pass and defended by the 4th Parachute Division of the Luftwaffe. Today, Passo del Giogo is a place of historical memory. Near the pass, you can find the Rifredo Mugello meteorological station, managed by the Italian Air Force meteorological service, important for studying the climate of the area.

From the pass, after a short climb, you reach Monte Altuzzo (925 m), which is remembered every year for the battle that took place between the Allies and the German forces. You then retrace your steps and begin the loop trail.

Meditating in the woods helps deeply relax and relieve stress through contact with nature. The fresh air and sounds of the forest promote concentration and stimulate creativity. Breathing harmonizes with the natural rhythm, promoting balance and well-being. The green of the trees and the light filtering through the leaves bring calm to the mind and help reduce blood pressure. This practice allows you to reconnect with yourself, increasing awareness and inner peace.

You soon reach a panoramic point. A viewpoint offers health benefits, helping to reconnect with slower and more natural rhythms.

Observing the landscape alleviates stress and calms the mind, promoting deep relaxation. Letting your gaze wander towards the horizon expands inner vision, stimulating creativity and mental clarity. Breathing fresh air at altitude improves oxygenation and gives energy. The silence and beauty of nature facilitate meditation and increase awareness. Taking a break from daily frenzy helps find balance and harmony with oneself. A crossroads in the woods is a suggestive place where trails meet, offering an immersive experience in nature. Each path reveals unique tones, from the colors of the leaves to the play of light filtering through the branches. The scents of moss, resin, and damp earth awaken the senses. The birdsong, the whisper of the wind, and the sound of footsteps on the leaves create a relaxing symphony. The trees, with their changing shapes, tell stories of seasons and passing time. Pausing at this point means reconnecting with nature, listening to your breath, and choosing your own path.

Meditative walking is an exercise in awareness where each step is taken with intention, harmonizing breath with movement to promote relaxation and full attention to the present moment.

The loop ends by returning to Passo del Giogo.

Forest Bathing

Forest Bathing, or Shinrin-Yoku in Japanese, is a practice of immersing oneself in nature. It involves walking slowly in a forest, using the five senses to connect with the surrounding environment. Breathing the air rich in essential oils released by the trees reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and strengthens the immune system. Contact with nature promotes mental relaxation, stimulates creativity, and improves mood. Without intense physical effort, Forest Bathing helps find balance and well-being, offering a moment of peace and harmony with oneself and the environment.
